Welcome to Hold-the-Salt!
Hi there, my name is Cat! I’m so happy you’re here! My love for food started very young. I used to watch all the cooking shows on public TV before there was cable. Lidia, Julia Child and Jacques Pepin were and still are my favorite. The way the chefs added all the ingredients and spices together to create a mouth watering dish was fascinating to me. But, as a young girl, I didn’t understand the balance of salt that was added to dishes. So, I added salt to everything on my plate before even tasting it. The saltier the better! And my love affair with salt began!
So, flash forward to 2021, I guess I shouldn’t have been so surprised when my doctor said, “You’re blood pressure is very high, 178/92 to be exact.” But sadly I was.
According to the CDC, nearly half of the adults in the U.S. have high blood pressure. I was now part of a statistic that I didn’t want to be. Did you also know that, only about 1 in 4 have their condition under control. Instead, this is where I wanted to be. IN CONTROL!
The Breakup!
I knew what I had to do! I had to say goodbye to SALT! I had to re-think the way I saw, cooked and tasted food. I realized that I wasn’t really tasting the food I was eating. I was actually just tasting all the salt on it and in it.
The American Heart Association recommends an ideal limit of no more than 1,500 mg per day for most adults, especially for those with high blood pressure. Even cutting back by 1,000 mg a day can improve blood pressure and heart health.
WOW! Did I have my work cut out for me? But, by creating low sodium recipes that I actually enjoyed and wanted to eat, was exciting to me! That’s where my new love affair began!
I’m happy to say that I have my blood pressure under control and I plan on keeping it that way!

More often then not, you’ll find me and my husband in the kitchen preparing meals together! We love to create new things together and enjoy yummy healthy food!

When I’m not in the kitchen, you can find me spending time with my husband, teen age son and our kittens, Bear and Oreo! I also love to design and create jewelry!
